www.cetaarts.org Mary Schoenman Lucas is originally from Mansfield Ohio, and her interest in art surfaced early. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin Art Extension. For a while she and her husband were making their living in the race horse industry, and during that period she painted many equine portraits for horse owners, trainers and jockeys. Living at various times in Oklahoma, Texas, and Montana, she found inspiration in both the cowboy atmosphere and the magnificent scenery of the Rocky Mountains. Mary has lived in Kentucky since 1980, and she currently divides her energies between helping to run her husband's pool business, raising paint and quarter horses, and teaching art to over 30 students, a number of whom have won awards in local and national art competitions. While caring for all these many responsibilities, Mary still reserves time for painting, and continues to find pleasure in exploring western and equine themes. "I am an equine artist, a race horse enthusiast and a breeder of speed bred paint and quarter horses. Our farm, Oak Ridge Farms, is located on 195 rural acres outside of Williamstown, Kentucky which is halfway between Lexington, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio. I also enjoy photography and I incorporate many of my own horses in my art through both photos and paintings. You can see my artwork on display at the Grant County Tourism Center at the Dry Ridge Outlet Mall, Dry Ridge, KY." |
